Jota Lita

Our story restaurant

Jota Lita

Nestled along the sun-drenched Estrada do Farol 28 in Carvoeiro, Portugal, Jota Lita has been a cherished culinary destination since 1988. This family-run gem offers a warm embrace of traditional Portuguese flavors, making it a must-visit for both locals and travelers seeking authentic Algarve cuisine.

Stepping into Jota Lita, you're immediately enveloped in a cozy ambiance that reflects its family roots. The restaurant's name itself is a nod to the founders' nicknames—João ("Jota") and his sister Lita—underscoring the personal touch infused into every aspect of the dining experience.

The menu is a celebration of Portugal's rich culinary heritage. Signature dishes like the Fish Cataplana, a hearty seafood stew, and Garlic Butter Prawns showcase the kitchen's commitment to traditional recipes. For meat enthusiasts, options such as Grilled Piri Piri Chicken and Lamb Chops offer robust flavors that resonate with the region's gastronomic traditions.

The culinary offerings at Jota Lita are both diverse and accommodating. Vegetarian and vegan guests will find thoughtfully prepared dishes that don't compromise on flavor. The Green Salad, for instance, is a fresh medley of local produce, while the kitchen is known for its willingness to adapt dishes to suit dietary preferences.

Desserts are equally enticing. The Passion Fruit Cheesecake and Multi-Berry Tart are crowd favorites, offering a sweet conclusion to a satisfying meal.

After decades under João's stewardship, Jota Lita underwent a seamless transition when his sister took over the reins. Her return to Portugal and subsequent management have infused the restaurant with renewed vigor, all while preserving the familial atmosphere that patrons have long cherished.

This continuity ensures that the essence of Jota Lita—a place where guests feel like part of the family—remains intact.

Beyond the delectable dishes, Jota Lita is celebrated for its exceptional service. The staff's attentiveness and genuine hospitality contribute to an inviting environment that encourages guests to linger and savor their meals.

The restaurant's ambiance is further enhanced by live music performances, creating a lively yet relaxed atmosphere that complements the culinary delights.

Consistently high ratings across various platforms reflect Jota Lita's unwavering commitment to quality. With a 4.7 rating on Google, 4.6 on Facebook, and 4.5 on Tripadvisor, it's clear that the restaurant resonates with a broad audience.

These accolades underscore the establishment's ability to deliver an exceptional dining experience time and again.

“ Ten out of ten! So good we visited there twice (could have easily been 3 or 4 times). The restaurant is understandably busy yet the service is second to none. Each visit we felt so welcome. All of the meals we had were incredible, the pepper steak melted in your mouth, fish was full of flavour, the garlic prawns were sensational. The portions are generously sized. I’m drooling just writing this review!! An absolute MUST visit. Real Portuguese hospitality and real authentic food. ”

“ This restaurant is fantastic. Super friendly and professional staff. Ordered grilled Golden bream (fish of the day) and grilled checked with peri peri for mains. House white wine is a great match with seafoods. Don’t miss their dessert! Their cheese cake is perfect!!! ”

“ We ended up at "Jota Lita" quite by chance. And what can I say - for us, it's currently the best restaurant in town! The service was super friendly and accommodating. The food was wonderful (pepper steak, chicken skewer and burgers for the kids). For starters, you must try the prawns with mango and chilli sauce. For dessert, there was apple crumble with ice cream. A great evening. Thanks to "Jota Lita" ”

“ Family run restaurant with excellent service and food. The best meal we had in Carvoeiro! Octopus, steak and black pork all amazing! Good priced wine. Delicious desserts like salted caramel cheesecake and chocolate mousse. Finish dinner with their white Port or almond liqueur. Kids could have any dish as half portion or the kids menu - very happy children! Would definitely return with family and friends! ”

“ Today was the third time visiting in my life. Happy to share that the food, service and ambiance were still as perfect as always. Loved the food and will definetely be coming back in a couple of years to try something new. For now, my all time favorite has been the Tuna Lita Style. Loved every inch of it. xx Abby ”

“ Jota Lita was incredible! My friends and I all loved what we got- I had a grilled salmon with orange reduction and it was fantastic. We also really enjoyed the chocolate mousse! However, what was even more impressive than the food was the service. Our waitress and waiter were both so kind. At one point we jokingly said we needed eggs for breakfast and the waitress actually brought us some eggs from the kitchen for us to take home. The waiter also gifted us some port wine at the end of the night as a treat on the house. The chef also came out to ask us how the food was! Overall, this is a fantastic establishment and anyone in Carvoeiro should make time to have a meal (or two) here. ”

“ Arrived at the restaurant, which looked busy, although Google maps said “not busy”, without a reservation, and was worried that there’d be no table available and yet the waitress (sorry, didn’t catch the name) managed to get us a table. The normal menu looked ok, but the star of the show was the chicken scratchings on the mini blackboard, aka the “specials” menu. The sea bream was . Tasted fresh and seasoned with just the right amount of salt. The black pork mixed board was . The different cuts of meat was a nice contrast, with one particular cut just melting in your mouth (think it was from the neck). The black ink seafood pasta was . The pasta had a lovely chewy consistency and a slight crispness having been pan fried a little which added an additional depth. The octopus was and out of this world. The meat was both juicy and gelatinous, with the perfect saltiness to it. The suckers on the tentacles were crispy from being pan fried and the only thing I could complain about was that a portion of octopus was 4 tentacles and not 8!! Portion size was good and despite wishing I had more octopus, I was actually very full after clearing my plate. (Was hard to take photos that do the food justice, but think you’ll get the idea of the food available) Seriously lovely meal in a more casual surrounding, with very helpful and friendly staff and above all, more reasonably priced compared to some other places around the corner. Thanks for the lovely evening Jota Lita! P.S. the homemade tiramisu must not be missed, even an Italian would have nothing but praise! ”
